about

AH Design a European project led by three major academic institutions in the field of design

In this European level culture project, contemporary, sustainable and accessible design meets different European audiences of different age groups. The project brings forth issues of creativity, social design and sustainability, and promotes intergenerational dialogue in three European countries: Finland, France, and Italy. The project explores different forms of sustainable design and how users, consumers, and audiences of different ages perceive them. The topic is important and current, as the elderly population of Europe is increasing. Therefore there is an urgency for sustainable design that considers both elderly and young people’s needs.
TANGO - a travelling exhibition in Nantes, Milan & Helsinki for the general public

The design solutions developed during the project will be exhibited in the TANGO exhibition during spring 2013. The exhibition will travel in Milan, Nantes, and in Helsinki, introducing different people of different ages to contemplate, search, and comprehend together how design can positively change and influence people’s lives and lived environments.

The main objective of TANGO workshops and exhibitions organized during the project are to explore the issue of social inclusion of the elderly and intergenerational dialogue. The aim is to propose to the local communities and stakeholders socially and environmentally promising design concepts, fostering dialogue and setting the stage for future local implementation. Quality sustainable design improves people’s everyday lives and quality of living concretely.

Design students develop constantly new innovations where ecological values and ideas of social inclusion are supported. That can mean, for example, how different design solutions can help aging people or people who are in a risk of social exclusion. This project attempts to activate and include European citizens into the society.

AH Design  is a two-year (2011-2013) collaborative project between Aalto University (Helsinki), L'École de design Nantes Atlantique and Politecnico di Milano, funded by the Culture 2013 program of the European Union.
